Today’s Devotional: Genesis 1:1-31
God reveals to us the very beginning interactions with creation –
Gen1:1 We see that God created.
Gen1:2 We see that God is present with His creation.
Gen1:3-5 We see that God speaks to His creation.
Gen 1:4 God put a distinction between light and darkness.
God see’s His creation, that it is good. There was a dividing line placed between the light and the darkness, boundaries were given to light and darkness.
- These boundaries made light and darkness distinguishable.
- There would be no confusion of whether it would be light or darkness.
- There would be clear distinctions on passing from light to darkness and darkness to light.
Gen1:5 God names His creation, God created a measurement system of time,
Gen1:6-8 God created a firmament, and God made further distinctions between His creation.
The sky and heavens
Gen1:9 God gave boundaries to the Land and the Sea.
Gen1:10 God names more of His creation, we see that God desires to be personal with His creation.
Gen1:11 God creates a distinction between kinds, the law of sowing and reaping, and the life God spoke into existence does a seasons or a lifetimes worth of growth. Because God created boundaries for the land and water life was able to grow and to flourish.
Gen 1:12 God’s ways are observable, God doesn’t desire for what He calls good to be hidden or a secret only for Himself.
Gen 1:14-16 God creates more distinction between his creation, and also creates a standard by measuring seasons and long amounts of time.
Some of these stars we see every day at specific times, some of these patterns we only see in certain times of a year.
Some of these stars we see maybe only every 50, 100, or etc years
Gen 1:17 God desired light on the earth – Ephesians 5:8, 1John 1:5-7, John 1:1-4
Gen 1:20 God created life on the earth, beginning with life in the seas and birds.
Gen 1:24 God created life on earth, on the dry ground.
Gen 1:26 God created man v26
Genesis 1 we see a lot of great things about God, we see His power, His wisdom, His diversity. In eternity we will never cease to learn of the greatness of who He is.
Read John1:1-18
Jesus Christ is the life and the light of the world, and He desires to be personal with us. If you find yourself in darkness today and as this New Year starts, and in what the world has promised for you to be a new you, but yet it’s only the same empty promise from last year. God desires to create a distinction in your life from the darkness of this world along with the unrest you find within your heart. That distinction God desires is to bring light into your heart which is in and by Jesus Christ alone.
Jesus is able to give you peace because His Grace towards each and everyone of us. Jesus died for our sins, our shame, and our constant moral defeat that happens daily in our life. Jesus who lived a perfect life died a criminal’s death and took our sin, shame, and moral defeat upon him. In return God creates in us a new life by accepting this and trusting Jesus is who He says, God.
Ephesians 5:8 – Now, If you have accepted God’s invitation for Jesus Christ’s sacrifice for your sins on the cross, then God has made you into a new creation. And He desires to do a new work within you, Just as when God created the earth He placed certain boundaries upon His creation so that life could flourish. So to God desires anyone who has placed their trust in Jesus Christ to walk according to a new value system.
God has placed certain clear distinctions in His creation. God placed these barriers so that things would continue and that things would grow and mature. The distinction between light and darkness which God placed on the world was spoken by His Word. In John 1:1-5 we’re told that Jesus is the Word of God and that all things were made through Him. And that in Jesus is life and the life is the light of men.
I encourage you that if you have placed your faith and trust in Jesus Christ, then to continue along with us in reading the Bible from Genesis to Revelation this year, and as God speaks to you on what these distinctions He desires to make in your life are personally, then trust Him that He knows what will truly give you peace and fulfillment.
And if you haven’t placed your trust in Jesus Christ, then I still want to encourage you to continue with us through this year and I assure you God will speak to you from His Word about what is the most important thing in your life.
Be encouraged:
There is order and by observing order we are able to learn so much about who God is. One of these things we learn about God because He is a God of order, He is a God who never changes. He is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow.
