The Levites role in their relation to Aaron
Leviticus 3:5-10 the entire tribe of Levi was given to serve the needs of Aaron the High Priest, the needs of the congregation at large, and the needs of the tabernacle itself. We see that God has placed a system of order and insuring that proper worship and function of the ministry to the Lord is communicated and executed properly both for their own edification and for the edification of the whole nation and any who look on from outside of the nation. They weren’t to do their own thing, but within the calling that was passed down to Aaron; in military terms everything had to fit within the commanders intent that God had passed down to Aaron, and completion of the task and purpose is not completed outside of the commanders intent.
Leviticus 3:11-13 we see that the Levites are a special possession to God, for the price of redemption a sacrifice is required of the one the redemptive price was paid for. God is not interested in human sacrifice, but instead in a life of sacrifice. Sacrificing one’s personal liberties for self enjoyment and self fulfillment for the enjoyment and fulfillment found in the one who paid the redeeming price. The divine call upon the Levites were that they were to be the first born among all the tribes of Israel, and their actions were to reflect the calling of the High Priest in worship at the Tabernacle and later the Temple, as well as their day to day lives.
Jesus is the first-born, Colossians 1:15, and so is our High Priest, Hebrews 4:14-16, according to the original Divine order, and not according to the Levitical order. All those who are redeemed by Him, exercise a priesthood which results from their birthright in Him, 1 Peter 1:9, and so have no need of any order of the world to represent them in the work they are doing but are to do things orderly and within the calling placed upon and given from our high priest Jesus Christ.
The individual redeemed Christian, in response to us being redeemed by the precious blood of Jesus Christ, serve the needs of Jesus Christ as our High Priest, the needs of the congregation at large, and the needs of the daily need of preparing our hearts before the Lord for Him to speak to us so that He may do His sanctifying work in you and through you, and keep in mind He is doing a work in the lives of others around you as well and the work done in you and in the lives of other Christians around you it is for the purpose of Him doing a work through you to complete His purposes and needs, and all of this is Worship and is to be done orderly and according to His Word, not our flesh or the world’s culture.
