Today’s Bible Reading: Numbers 5-6

Today’s Devotional: Numbers 5:1-4
Faithfulness and Obedience to God and in relationships with others around us
Numbers 5:1-4 God commands the congregation to be committed to a clean walk among others and before the Lord so not to defile others within the camp and disqualify others from having the Lord dwell with and among them. Those who were put outside of the camp were not left to die in the wilderness but they would journey on the outside of fellowship with the Lord and with the congregation until they were ceremonially clean, Leviticus 13, 15, 21.
It wasn’t that these things made a person a known sinner, though that was wrongly assumed, but the leprosy, unclean discharge, and dead bodies are reminders of sin and what sin does to the individual and inevitably it separates the individual from fellowship until there is restitution made. God is far more concerned than just with our individual sin, but that our sin nature be addressed and put off as Paul writes to the Ephesians.
- That you put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts. Ephesians 4:22
Only in Jesus can our old man be crucified and the nature of Jesus as our new man, Paul encourages the Ephesians and Philippians, be put on, like new clothes and lifestyle, as new creations and so they should be worn and walked out in wearing; and it’s Jesus Christ who is our chief example of what our walk should look like as new creations.
- But you have not so learned Christ, if indeed you have heard Him and have been taught by Him, as the truth is in Jesus. Ephesians 4:20-21
- And be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness. Ephesians 4:23-24
- Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, who, being in the form of God did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death on the cross. Philippians 2:5-8
