Today’s Devotional: Genesis 8:15
Genesis 8:1-14 We could be tempted to act and move, make decisions based upon different situations and things in our lives, we could even over spiritualize things in our lives to give us reasons for why we stepped out or did what we did when we did it.
But what’s important is that we step out when the Lord speaks and tells us to. We don’t step out when we desire or want based on testing the waters or the environment around us.
We also need to understand that stepping out because we see the Lord working doesn’t mean that the Lord wants us involved in or coming alongside Him in that thing. What I have noticed in my life is that often times I’ve seen the Lord work in some pretty awesome ways and some pretty awesome places but the Lord just wanted me to wait and watch Him, and to take these things to Him and let Him minister to me from that, but it didn’t mean He wanted me to join Him in that because that was where He wanted someone else, or He wanted me somewhere else. And the Lord would minister to me through what I saw when I took it to His word.
As Christian’s we are to take the things He shows us about Himself and His ways back to Him and wait for Him to speak and give us revelation in the knowledge of who He is and how He works. The Second half of Ephesians 1 in verses 15-23 Paul prays that the church will receive the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him (epignosis: knowledge which very powerfully influences our life and relationship with Him), then our understanding of who He is and what He is doing around us become enlightened. And Paul prays that the church will come to know:
What is the hope of His calling
What is the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints
And what is the exceeding greatness of his power toward us who believe
It is very beneficial to have the knowledge of God to be what is accompanied along with stepping into the different areas of our lives. The number one way how we learn about who God is, is from the pages of His Word. Remember that John 1:1-4 tells us that Jesus is the Word of God and that Jesus is the full revelation of who God is, Hebrews 1:1-3.
Anytime we step out with specific direction from the Lord like Noah received, walking in the general will God has for our lives is very important. Noah had set himself apart from the culture of the day, what the value system and practices were for finding fulfillment, and this is God’s general will for every individual. From that came God’s specific will for Noah’s life in Genesis 6, then God giving additional specific instruction for his life.
The Lord desires to speak to us, let’s not move before we’ve given Him time to speak to us on matters.
As the New Year begins lets be about walking according to God’s eternal direction and focus. Let’s take situations and circumstances to Him as we spend time in His Word and wait for Him to speak.
