Today’s Bible Reading: Genesis 24-25

Today’s Devotional: Genesis 24:7-8
The Lord God of Heaven
Genesis 24:7 We see that the Lord has given Abraham:
- A new identity, no longer identified with who he was before God came into his life.
- A New direction on life, Abraham was no longer going in the direction of the culture around him.
And Abraham was making new choices in his circumstances. Not based on the circumstance alone and how his culture or those around him evaluated it but based on the attributes of who God is.
- Abraham learned to trust God’s Word and His power to deliver on His Word.
We now see character development in the life of Abraham, what the New Testament refers to as Spiritual Growth, and that growth was based upon nothing more than Abraham just trusting God with his life and circumstances.
In Genesis 24 we see a great picture of the Church and God’s relationship with it, and how the individual becomes the Bride of Christ.
God has placed the Church in the world to carry a treasure, which is the message of the Hope of Jesus Christ, we would call that the Gospel Message – a message of good news.
God has sent the Holy Spirit ahead of the Church to convict the world of this Hope of His treasure.
The Church needs to be aware that every individual has the free choice to accept and follow the hope we have in Jesus Christ.
And that another sacrifice or any additional revelation of Jesus Christ is not needed. Everything and every way that God has revealed Himself through Jesus Christ in Scripture, how He has revealed that through the Church, and the work of truth the Holy Spirit on the individuals life is all that is needed.
God has not called the Church to put on an entertainment circus to attract bystanders, but to simply go and share the good things of who God is and the hope the Church has of its redemption. Paul writes in 2 Corinthians 4:7 that we are like vessels, earthen vessels which carry a message that has been filled up for the purpose of pouring out where the owner of the vessel so chooses.
So go this year wherever God desire to send you, not as dishonest servants going where He has not sent you. And know that where God has sent you He has truly gone before you with a message of Hope for someone. If there is great success or if there is hardship ahead, know that is only a season, but the focus of the sojourning God has sent you on is to take Hope to a dying world. So may the Lord bless the final outcome of this journey He has for you this year and may He complete the awesome things He desire to do in and through your life.
