Today’s Bible Reading: Numbers 12-14

Today’s Devotional: Numbers 12:4-5

Suddenly the Lord spoke…

There was no long delay in God’s judgement, God’s justice was brought suddenly, God’s action was definite and immediate which places emphasis on the text of Numbers 12 as a whole. The rebellion against Moses by his sister Miriam and his brother Aaron. The occasion was Moses’ marriage to an Ethiopian woman, which was not the reason for the rebellion, but it was perceived as an opportunity for Miriam and Aaron to act upon a deeper feeling of jealousy which had been present in their heart for some time. They resented Moses’ authority and desired it to be shared with them.

“Well, why can I not be the one…” sadly this is quite often a common beginning to a horrible punch line and complaint within the church and within the household family today. A desire for another’s authority that quite frankly has not been given, by the Lord, to the one complaining. And so jealousy and division takes root in the heart and it looks for any possible self justified ability to spew out and take its claim.

This is quite often fruit of one who resents the work of the Lord in another’s life, a desire to always usurp the Spiritual calling and exercise of spiritual giftings in another’s life, jealousy and covetousness. Circumstances will always occur in which the things manifested in darkness will always find their way to the service and will always be manifested by light.

We do however have the choice of how these feelings, thoughts, or desires find the light. We can either sit around and continue to feed them and let them grow to the point that they consume and devour the spirit which opposes them within our soul. Or they can be illuminated by the Light of the Word of God and given proper attention and understanding for what they are.

Ephesians 5 is a great study of how we are to walk and navigate these within our life. Things in the darkness desire to go to the surface of our life, and how the war between our fleshly desires and the Spirit happen; Galatians 5:17, Romans 7:14-25. The only way to overcome these is by our spiritual armor that has been given to us; Ephesians 6:10-18. We do live in this world, the world is real, it is not some mystical image that has been placed on the back drop of our minds some where deep in our subconsciousness. But how we fight against the battles that come against our life is not Physical as the world is, because the problems are not physical but spiritual. We are misaligned spiritually, and the only way to have the proper alignment is to use the tools or armor which Christ has given to us so that we can walk out properly aligned with the giftings and callings He has given to each of us and this begins with always growing in a relationship with Jesus Christ and His Word, which as Chrisitians is our final goal to be transformed into the image of.
