Today’s Bible Reading: Numbers 15-17

Today’s Devotional: Numbers 15:1-21

Sacrifice’s +1 (What accompanies a sacrifice or offering)

An offering and a sacrifice removes the worshipers guilt, and by making the sacrifice or offering this speaks of the worshipers desire to be Holy and without blame before the Lord. And this would be accompanied by their grain and drink offering speaking of the Thanksgiving and Joy the acceptance of the sacrifice would give the worshiper.

The children of Israel were about to turn their faces away from the promised land, for 38 years, which they should have, at once, seized and possessed. We see two major rebellions had just happened; Miriam and Aaron’s against Moses in Numbers 12, then the peoples towards God in Numbers 14. But God… and yet immediately we see God’s Mercy, Grace, Care, and Help.

We see that the Lord gives them a few provisions to get them through their upcoming 38 year death march in the wilderness. God reminds them of;

  1. The prophetic promise of the ultimate fulfillment of God’s divine intention for them to enter the promised land in Numbers 15:2,
  2. The prophetic promise of a sacrifice which will one day be a permanent atonement for all sins,
  3. The prophetic promise of the Holy Spirit being poured out onto the life of the Believer,
  4. And the thanksgiving and joy this future atonement will give them for their eternal as well as day to day peace within their hearts which will see them through any present circumstances and situations.

The passage reads just like the passage of the law God had patiently instructed them with at Sinai with their failure there, and now at Kadesh-Barnea. After failure the Lord patiently instructs them with His Mercy, Grace, Care, and Help.

With Christ’s sacrifice and offering for our life and the Holy Spirit being poured out onto the life of every believer; it leaves the Christian with thanksgiving and joy that we know no matter where it is we are it’s His Mercy, Grace, Care, and Help which He shows to us patiently. It’s by His divine plan in our life which we are strengthened and equipped then for the promises we have in Christ Jesus, the Spirit filled life which we are not tossed around by what life throws at us and we are strengthened for any Spiritual battle because we have learned to be content in Christ and that it’s God’s will that will prevail.
