Today’s Bible Reading: Deuteronomy 3-4

Today’s Devotional: Deuteronomy 3:1-11

King Og

King Og, Numbers 3:11, was the last of the giants in the area, which was on the east of the Jordan. In Numbers 1-3, giants or Rephaim are mentioned five times.

God has proven now to Israel that when trusting God, Israel was more than able to defeat the warrior giants feared by all, and would experience first hand that their fear of them in Numbers 13 which kept them from entering God’s promised and desired peace for their life. With the first generation God brought the children of Israel to the edge of the promised land and not a single battle to fight before entering the Promised Land. The second generation God brought them through a few battles before entering the Promised Land. God shows the children of Israel their fear of the giants was unfounded as long as God was with them. The first generations fear was proven to be weaker in light of the second generation’s victories. The second generation learned to trust the Lord at His Word and learned to join Him in His will for their life.

For the Christian, irregardless of battles or no battles, God’s desire is for the individual or congregation to learn to trust Him for the giants in our lives and to join Him for His will in our lives. Battles will come but it’s only trusting the Lord that we have peace in the midst of our situations and circumstances. When the Holy Spirit came to live in the heart of the Christian a ministry the Holy Spirit does is to lead, guide, and give the Christian peace through the battles.
