Today’s Bible Reading: Deuteronomy 5-7

Today’s Devotional: Deuteronomy 5:1-22
Ten Commandments reviewed
Numbers 5 begins a series of sermons given by Moses before the children of Israel were to enter the promised land. What it was they needed to remember in order to live long and prosper in the land which was God’s promised peace for Israel. But there were situations of boundaries which needed to be abided within so to continue life in God’s peace, and there were three main points on how to stay in His peace.
- Don’t live as you had learned in Egypt, as the Egyptians. There was a reason why God allowed them to live separately in the land of Goshen.
- Don’t live as the peoples in the land which God is kicking out before you, the had lived opposite of the Lord, that’s why the Lord deposed them.
- Do live according to the ways of the Lord and His character. In Deuteronomy Moses retells to a new generation all of who God is, His character and ordinances so that a distinction can be made so they can remain in the Land.
These are the same principles which we see for the Christian, to have God’s Peace filling our life, and living worthy of the Grace which He has shown us. We are not to be living according to the life we were saved from and we are not to be adopting new practices from the world which is sin, which will cause us to sin, and with cause others to sin. And we are able to do this through growing in a relationship with Him in His Word and learning what it is He calls sin and relying on the strength of the Holy Spirt to avoid those areas. It was the Word and the Holy Spirit which the children of Israel would need to cross into and be victorious in the promised land.
