Today’s Bible Reading: Deuteronomy 12-15

Today’s Devotional: Deuteronomy 12:1-9

One place and one manner of Worship

Deuteronomy 12:1 we see the importance of observing Deuteronomy 12:2-4 and what worship is not.

The children of Israel just as the Christian are to destroy from their life and daily practice what, where, and how the world and culture around them worships, the value systems of the world, and the places we go forward into. We’ve been given as Christians a new value system, bought and paid for by the blood or Jesus Christ; the same as the children of Israel their ransom from Egypt was incredibly expensive and so theirs and our value systems are supposed to be polar opposite of the world and culture around us. Worship in Deuteronomy 12:2 we see is not where ever the individual thinks and feels is best, most convenient, or self preserving. But it’s the place and way God says is best and most equipping and edifying of Jesus Christ in our lives.

If I can look back on Deuteronomy 11 briefly, where our goal should meet His desire for every aspect, situation, circumstance, every second of our life we’re told in Deuteronomy 11:8-13; that we keep EVERY Word of God close and dear to our heart. To observe and obey them so that we may posses both in eternity and now what He has promised and has to give, His Grace and His Peace. Not what the world gives but only what is given from abiding in and with Him and His Word.

Deuteronomy 11:12 the Lord cares for and knows where each of us are and He desires to give refreshment and His peace to that situation and circumstance in your life.

Deuteronomy 11:14-17 but it starts with keeping His Word always on our mind, in our heart, and as the purpose with which we live and walk; Deuteronomy 11:13, 18. Then His Word gives us His peace, and a growing trust of Him, His word, and promises.

Deuteronomy 12:2-4 The false fulfillment and love which we have learned from the world and which the world desires to constantly impress upon our lives is not God, it’s not His character, so it must not be adopted into our lives, God’s Word in chapters 11 and 12 give us loads of distinctions of how the Lord is so incredibly different from the world and it’s value systems. They must be delt with in our lives with seriousness because they lead to death, and us separating ourselves from the Lord and from other Christians. God has placed individuals who hold to a common unity of who God is to be in and apart of each others lives, together going through the Word of God and being transformed into the image of Jesus Christ through His Word, the Holy Spirit completing His work, and other Christians equipping and edifying one another as well with the Word, these individuals are called Christians today, in the earliest of the days of the Church they were called the followers of the Way, and Paul refers to them as the Church.

Deuteronomy 12:5-7 we are to seek where and how God says to worship Him and that’s only found in His Word, and is not found in doing whatever we think is right, Deuteronomy 12:8-9. The problem in the Church today is God’s Word is not sought after. The Bible maybe referred to, read, talked about but too often it is not sought after but it’s the worlds methods and methodology, fulfillment, and ways which are sought after, which produces Deuteronomy 12:8 every man doing what is right in their own eyes, this breeds legalism not Grace and Peace of and from God. God’s Word must be expounded upon and taught not a launching point to talk about ourselves, but it’s Jesus, everything is about Jesus and He has been made head over all things to the Church, which is His body the fulness of Him who fills all in all; Ephesians 1:22-23. The Church, the gathering together physical presence of Christians is where the fullness of Christ is met and experienced.
