Today’s Bible Reading: Joshua 11-14

Daily Devotional: Joshua 11:1-15

Continuing forward, not laying up

Joshua and the children of Israel conquered all the land that was before them in the Mountains and in the South, and they did all the Lord had commanded. Joshua didn’t delay in doing anything the Lord called them to do. Joshua and the congregation were able to do all the Lord had commanded because the Lord had gone before them and had fought for them. God’s calling is His enablement, because the Lord never calls us to something He has not gone before us in. We therefore need to not stop spending time with the Lord or seeking the Lord. We need to not leave our first love and begin trusting in our strength or our thoughts and ways.

Deuteronomy 11:1-15 and when we have done everything He has called us to do and we desire to stop and hang up our hats because of our job well done, and that which led us to attain the spiritual growth and development that we have attained up to this point. We need to not hang our hats on our past, but we are called to press on to what the Lord still desires to do and complete, and we must complete what lies ahead to the same degree, a complete commitment to His calling, and go forward the same way. The same command that comes from the Lord which is received from spending time with Him, holding His Word in high esteem, and obeying.

We walk by the Word of God being strengthened and laid down in our walks like a firm foundation for a road so that we are able to move forward easily and obstacles can easily be removed from our lives. We do this all with the same mind being made up that everything must be about and point to Jesus and His eternal plan, Philippians 3:15-16.

The first generation of the children of Israel were an example for the later generations of those who grow tired or delay in following the Lord. This second generation had seen what the natural consequences are for not seizing the calling from the Lord and they refused to experience similar consequences now that they have tasted and seen how great and powerful the Lord is and the awesome power He desires to work in and through them. Let us also be spurred on by those so that we may not miss out on all that the Lord desires to do in and through us by the Power of His Holy Spirit, which can be measured by the raising of Jesus Christ from the dead.
