Daily Devotional: Joshua 19:1-9
Simeon’s inheritance with Joshua
What great Grace God gave Simeon. We see here that Simeon received his inheritance in Judah and there is one other who essentially received it’s inheritance in Judah though it dwelt in cities all throughout the promised land, Levi, and I say Judah because where is it that God chose to rest His name and where the Temple was built, in Jerusalem which is in Judah, Deuteronomy 18 and Numbers 18. We see that God’s foreknowledge, but for God, His omniscience because He has the capacity to know all; knowing who would completely forsake His Word and the house of David, so He placed Simeon in Judah as their inheritance.
Genesis 49:5-7 we see explained from Genesis 34:25-31 why Simeon and Levi did not inherit their own territory.
Both Simeon and Levi had a choice to make when push to shove came when the nation divided after the reign of Solomon. Would they stand with the Word of the Lord for the house of David and stand with the promise of the Messiah or would they depart. In 1 Kings 12 and 2 Chronicles 20 we see that all those other than those in Judah, Benjamin, and Levi departed from strengthening David’s house and declaring the Gospel in their lives and to all who they came in contact with. Eventually however during the reign of Asa in 2 Chronicles 15:9 we read that great Numbers of those from Simeon and a couple other tribes returned back to Judah when they saw the Lord was with Judah.
From the very beginning of the knowledge of the Lord and in liue of what transpired in Genesis 34, His plan had always been that Simeon’s inheritance would be in Judah, the same as with Levi. From the start the Lord had placed Simeon where He knew it would be best for them, but it was still Simeon’s choice to abide in God’s Grace and perfect will for them. It’s only when Simeon along with the others who desired to have their relationships with Judah restored that they walked out God’s true desire and for their life, fellowship with His promise and Love.
The same is true even today for us, no matter the circumstances and situations we each have our own free will individually, apart from one another and because of Adam’s sin back in Genesis our free will is in it’s nature opposite of the character and intentions of God. But it’s when we choose to return to the Lord’s eternal intention for us, fellowship with and in the promise of Jesus Christ and His Agape Love, which as the Greeks observed and wrote for us that apart from the One true God, there is no display or knowledge of Divine Love, and instead it’s all perverted and tainted with personal goals and self ambition. It’s only when we see and accept God’s favor and that His ways are best upon our lives that we have an experiential knowledge of Agape Love.
… But it doesn’t stop there, because God is Divine Love, when we accept the Work Jesus has done for us on the cross, then the Holy Spirit comes and dwells within us, and brings His Agape, Divine, Love not only to be shown towards us but to be worked in us and to be shown out of us to others. And if we haven’t seen this characteristic trait of the Lord displayed in our lives lately it’s very easy to have that, we merely ask the Lord to do a work of His Divine Love in our lives and we spend time with Him and get to know Him more and more through His Word.
