Today’s Bible Reading: Joshua 22-24

Daily Devotional: Joshua 22:1-9

The two and a half tries who chose to take their inheritance on the other side of the Jordan River. Have now obeyed everything Joshua had said that needed to be done and keeping the command that Moses had called them to fulfill so that they would not discourage those who desired to enter into the promised land, and from turning away because of the battles and giants in their lives that were still to fought; because outside of God’s promised peace for them in their own eyes is good enough, and not fighting certain battles and giants the Lord had called them to is good enough not to in their own eyes.

Even though the two and a half tribes desired not to enter into the promised rest God had for them, they still had a responsibility.

Joshua 22:5 to do the Word of the Lord and to keep it; walking in the ways of the Lord and loving, serving, and holding fast to Him alone. We read that in Joshua’s charge: every individual is expected to keep and obey God’s Word, to be familiar and in love with it, so that they will be familiar with and in love with the Lord. We know from the earlier text that this is what will keep them from getting overtaken, stumbling, or growing tired in doing what is right before the Lord and when enemies come they will not be consumed but instead the Lord will show them more of Himself through the trials and situations.

Even if the individual did not desire anything deeper of the Lord and to dwell in the Lord’s promised inheritance, they were not to dissuade those who desire to dwell in His inheritance for them, and both are expected to keep and dwell in His Word so that they will know and Love Him, Psalm 119 the Psalmist writes that those who Love God will Love His Word and be in it, and those who Love and are in His Word will love God.

The promised land is a picture for the Christian and the Church of a Spirit filled life and the crossing of the Jordan of the baptism of the Holy Spirit. This is not required of a believer, but it is desired by the Lord for the believer so that they can take hold to their full inheritance in Christ Jesus and not just their Salvation; as Paul wrote to the Philippians in chapter three, to lay hold of that which is why Christ Jesus laid hold of us. But the one who does not wish to enter the abundance that Christ has saved us for while here on earth, because no matter what is trendy in the church right now – we are not in exile, they are not to dissuade or discourage any from the Spirit filled life and baptism of the Holy Spirit.
