Today’s Bible Reading: Judges 16-18

Today’s Devotional: Judges 16:1-15
Samson’s ensnarement to a harlot and her occupation then repeatedly to Delilah and her worldly guarantees for causing one who is to be set apart for the Lord to stumble, be overtaken, and burn out in his calling from the Lord. On multiple occasions Samson escaped through his strength and his wisdom. These temporary over comings only emboldened Samson to continue to place more and more trust in himself and his abilities. Over time this only produced an over inflated ego in himself, void of considering there were any consequences no matter where he went, what he touched, who he listened to, or what he ate and did.
We see in the life of Samson that there are consequences for all of our actions and that even if they are not immediate, they do come. As Peter wrote in his epistle, we all harvest what we have planted in it’s due season, and it’s only the Lord who knows how long those seasons take. Just because those seasons may be delayed of the Lord may be allowing things and holding back the natural consequences, it’s not because of His approval. The Lord gives us distinctions from His Word so that we can know the differences in what are fruits of righteousness and fruits of unrighteousness, but for those who choose not to be in His Word and to grow in knowledge from His Word, He still provides elements for us to create distinctions and many of those are from watching other peoples lives who we have decided to search out and follow after.
The Lord desires us to turn away from those things because we desire Him and His character in our life, and not the death and destruction we see in others who are going through the things because they had chosen to go down these same paths earlier and we see the harvest they are having all the while we’re still planting the same seeds we see they planted and we expect a different harvest to come forth. What comes forth however is a season of bad fruit which the Lord still desires us to compare to His Word and learn from them so that in the next season we plant fruits of righteousness and harvest that in our lives in their due season.
