Today’s Devotional: 1 Samuel 1:1-11
Waiting on the Lord’s timing
Throughout scripture waiting on the Lord is often times compared to how a farmer waits on a harvest or a crop to fully mature. There are a few things we can do while we wait on the Lord’s timing.
- Grow in the understanding of the Spiritual concept of Seasons, whatever we sow and plant will bring a harvest later in it’s due season. If we throw out grass seed, grass will grow up; if we throw out tomato seeds, tomatoes will come up, if we throw out dandelions, dandelions will come up; if we throw out pine seeds, pine trees will come up:
- Jesus in – Matthew 24:45
- Paul in – Galatians 6:7-9
- Our location and not allowing obstacles to separate us from the Lord. The city where Elkanah and Hannah lived and where Shiloh is are separated by mountains and difficulties along the journey. So to in our lives, it’s important that we seek to remove obstacles as best as we can that may be blocking our time with the Lord, and what ever other things that may still remain or may happen we don’t let those things keep us from:
- Spending time with the Lord
- Spending time in fellowship with others
- Bringing our prayers and heart to the Lord
- Dedicate or separate our lives apart for Him and His desires for our life
- Not basing our relationship with the Lord on someone else’s relationship or possibly a person’s mismanagement of ministry.
- 1Samuel 1:3 then later we read in 1 Samuel 2:12-25 that Eli’s sons were corrupt, and yet Hannah and her husband did not base the character of God on 2 individuals who had misplaced their priorities in the Lord.
