Today’s Bible Reading: 1 Samuel 16-17

Today’s Devotional: 1 Samuel 16:1-4
Obeying the Lord in every situation
Samuel had two options at this point, mourn and fear Saul or obey the Lord and Go.
Samuel could either get stuck and hung up on what could have happened but didn’t and fearful because of the outcome, or Samuel could continue on in what He’s been called to do. Something import to note is that God never forgot about Saul and left him in the ditch at this moment, but what’s most important has changed, it’s not that Saul is no longer important in the eyes or heart of the Lord but he is no longer the most important thing for the life of Israel and God’s people to lead them and be an example to them. Who it was God’s Spirit was to be upon to lead His people in the promised peace of the Lord and who the power of the Lord will work through to remove the bondage to the things which would ensnare the people to the things that are not of the Lord.
And Samuel was only able to keep moving forward because of his relationship with the Lord and the Word of the Lord.
This is the same for us and our lives. The Lord desires that the things which have the tendency to grab hold of our attention because of mourning, fear, or any other reason that we give those things to the Lord and trust Him them that He has these under control and we can not, through our weakness and self humbling realizing we have no control over these things He is then able to strengthen and empower. We keep our focus on the most important thing, Christ and His desire and plan. It does not mean the other thing(s) don’t matter or are not reality, but it does mean that if their not the most important thing then we need to not give them that position. The only way to keep knowing what is the most important thing is to stay close to the Lord through His Word and allow Him to speak to us. Remember as well prayer is not us changing God’s Heart or making a jin out of the Lord but allowing our heart to be aligned with Him and His Word as He speaks to us and directs us how to pray.
