Today’s Bible Reading: 1 Samuel 18-20

Today’s Devotional: 1 Samuel 18:1-4

There’s something about a bond of a brother hood that is formed from individuals who go all in and sold out for something.

It is likely from watching Jonathan’s earlier steps of faith with the heart and desire to see the things which threatened Israel with slavery to the world and pulled them away from the Lord, 1 Samuel 14; that Jonathan having just witnessed someone who is willing to go all in and trust the Lord at His Word, send excitement into the heart of Jonathan and a desire for David to do nothing but succeed.

Jonathan’s soul was to see the reproach and misplaced trust of Israel removed from before it and for trust in God’s Word and promises to be firmly established and cemented into the fabric of the nation of Israel. Jonathan by giving David his robe and military attire was making a statement that David will be the next King of Israel and he needed to be robed as such, as the crowned prince. Because Jonathan’s heart was surrendered to the Lord he could see that the hand of the Lord was on David and he recognized the move of God’s Spirit. He knew God’s will for His life and for David and he was 100% all in with setting his personal ambition to the throne aside for the will of the Lord. Jonathan wasn’t afraid of the consequences either for this action and attention that would be drawn to David for this because Jonathan was confident in the Lord’s hand to guard and protect David.
