The Presence of the Lord

To eat the Lord’s Bread in the Lord’s House was to be a friend and guest of the Lord, enjoying His Hospitality and His Presence. This Bread was to be fresh daily and always on hand.

Ahimelech, the priest, here broke priestly custom and tradition but he did not break God’s Word. Ahimelech rightly understood that our human need and sustainment in and from the Lord is more important that religious traditions and observations.

Jesus, when his disciples broke religious customs by eating against traditions, Jesus used Ahimelech’s actions to explain what the matter was truly about, Matthew 12:1-8. Jesus and Ahimelech, our traditions are never more important than what God’s Word says and what God’s Heart is. God never said only priest can eat this Bread, the pharisees added “the only” because it seemed logical to themselves, but it was adding to God’s Word.

To raise our application, or even our own interpretation,  of God’s Word to the same level of God’s Word is a very dangerous game to play. Interpretation of God’s Word rests within scripture to interpret God’s Word for us, and our application should never counter the whole council and interpretation of scripture of it self. Any application and interpretation of scripture should rest and be grounded in the whole council of the God’s Word, not partial or picking and choosing parts and verses then putting them together for our own religious traditions and customs, shaping a relationship with the Lord and others from our own hands.

God’s Heart is that any who desire to receive from His Word, is able and encouraged to do so daily; growing in the knowledge and understanding of His Word and the Lord’s Hospitality towards the individual who desires to do so and just sits before Him and enjoys His presence. Receiving fresh every day from His Word into our hearts; this is the heart and life which the Lord works His Power through mightily, the one who just desires the Lord’s Hospitality and the Lord’s Work in their life for all things.

The misconception that “only those” who go to Seminary, Bible College, or receive a degree can handle God’s Word and pass it out to others is so far from the truth. It’s the Pharisees and legalism of our day who push this propaganda.

It’s the one who the Lord has stirs in their spirit, through the Holy Spirit, to sit with Him in fellowship and His Hospitality to receive knowledge and understanding from His Word from Him. This is the daily and continual heart the Lord desires in order to hand out His Word, the true Bread of Life.
