Today’s Bible Reading: 1 Samuel 25-27

Today’s Devotional: 1 Samuel 25:1

The death of Samuel, in Samuel’s later years of life he lived in obscurity because Israel had rejected him and gone after a king like the rest of the nations, and rejecting the Lord. King Saul who the Lord had chosen as king had also rejected Samuel and the Lord.

Then we have David who after Samuel’s burial had left and went to the wilderness of Paran, possibly to mourn but also highly likely out of fear for King Saul, the only man who Saul was fearful of had died and so it would be highly likely Saul would try to finish David off this time since Samuel had anointed David as the next King. A good friend of David is now dead, one less ally when the king is against you, therefore the whole nation is then against you as it was for Samuel.

But… One thing was true for Samuel as it is for David, they never stopped following the Lord and resting in the truth that He is with them. That was a great deal of comfort and encouragement for both to continue on because of this one fact of The Lord being with them. It would have been long passed since other men walked out their life with this truth, since Moses, Joshua, and Caleb. But one thing Samuel and David both knew was that God had not changed, but it was Israel who had changed. Therefore the Words and Promises of the Lord are still the same, if they will only walk according to His commands then He will go before them in all that they do; Malachi 3:6 and Hebrews 13:8, EVERYTHING that the individual had and was given upon receiving of the Lord in their life and continuing to follow the Lord in all things are still available and alive for us today. Nothing has changed from Moses, Joshua, and Caleb to Samuel and David, to now us the Lord is still with us and even better the Lord is not only desiring to come upon us but to live within us which is the greatest of all gifts.
