Today’s Bible Reading: 2 Samuel 8-11

Today’s Devotional: 2 Samuel 8:1-8
After David poured out his heart to the Lord he responded by stepping out and further obeying God’s Word for his life and those around him. David didn’t stop and rest in what had happened and accept that the Lord was done because what was easy for the Lord was complete, or that the Lord brought His promise to be.
But David looked up and saw that there was still so much more left to be done. The command and Word of the Lord for the things in the midst of Israel and among their lives which had caused them to stumble and would continue to do so had not been removed. So David continued in what the Lord had and did already command Israel to do even centuries earlier.
David knew a valuable lesson which is even very practical for us even today, continue to completion what the Lord has already called us to do, do the last thing He has said until it is complete. If the Lord has not given us any new direction it means what He wants and has told us has not been complete and so this isn’t vacation time. What David knew, understood, and was very familiar with is a military term; the Commanders Intent, that we continue in the last orders we’re given until new orders are given.
