Today’s Bible Reading: 2 Samuel 16-18

Today’s Devotional: 2 Samuel 16:1-4
Serving the King
We see a servant who has stepped out to serve King David after Absalom has sought to usurp the throne, stealing away what isn’t his. The individual whom Ziba served desired to join in this rebellion against the king, but Ziba who had tasted and seen how great it was to have David as king and reigning over all the land did not depart from serving the king. Even if all others sought to have their comforts and titles restored from their old life, a time before David was in their life, when people were seeking after what was right in their own hearts.
To highlight 3 of the important steps which Ziba took in order to not fall back into the times of seeking what was right in his own eyes and what was right in a culture when what is right changes so quickly.
- Fellowship – When all the culture around his was turned upside down and people began to do what was right in their own eyes Ziba didn’t stop seeking out the right fellowship, with others who sought God’s heart in the community and culture.
- We see that Ziba continued to obey the Word of the Lord and possibly risk death to step out for obeying God’s heart.
- Ziba served David because he realized how much David had served him in as his King, and Ziba realized serving what was before only led to death and captivity to the things of this world.
When these three things are being walked out we realize that everything anyone does and everywhere they go we as humans are actually serving and seeking favor from something or someone. And the one who is walking out their trust in the Lord as Ziba had displayed for David we realize that we are serving and seeking favor from our King of Kings Jesus who is the Christ, and not to gain favor with the trends and the culture the day but Jesus. It’s all about Jesus.
