Today’s Bible Reading: 1 Kings 10-12

Today’s Devotional: 1 Kings 10:1-5

The Queen of Sheba had heard of the fame of Solomon which had concerned the name of the Lord.

The Queen hearing of Solomon within the context of who God is and what He has done, this type of an announcement in the ancient world was common to have been spread by 4 ways: Solomon himself through his character and judgements, his words, and his deeds. From the people discussing and spreading word of the wisdom which leads them, others who may have passed through the kingdom, and lastly via messengers who were sent out as a form of media of the day to declare without formerly making official diplomatic channels.

When the Queen of Sheba arrives to test if all of this was true, we see 7 things which were distinct characteristics of Solomon and should be of every believer:

  1. That the world sees the wisdom which only God gives.
  2. That they have been firmly planted and have a solid foundation within the kingdom, knowing who Jesus is and therefore knowing who they are, then able to understand who others are.
  3. That they are nourished and consume a strong diet from God’s Word daily.
  4. Their organized in their trust in the Lord, their not in chaos nor easily moved.
  5. As servants we serve well, have a heart to serve instead of being served.
  6. Reflect and walk worthy of their equipping and cause others to speak favorably of the Lord and we’ve put on our new calling properly, Colossians 3.
  7. The manner which we approach and desire to approach and spend time with the Lord daily.
