Today’s Bible Reading: 1 Kings 16-18

Today’s Devotional: 1 Kings 16:1-28
The Lord has given us many examples from His Word of what actions and behaviors in our lives are destructive and lead to death and a very breakdown of the very fabric of our society, family, relationships, and etc. Repeated sometimes with rapid succession we see the lives of the Kings of the Northern Kingdom of Israel and chunks of time of even some of the lives of a majority of the Kings of the Southern Kingdom of Judah.
1 Kings chapter 16 the four kings before Ahab reigned in the Northern Kingdom of Israel the Lord tells us of what marked out the wickedness of these four kings:
- Marked by their greed and self desire,
- Their identity was wrapped up in fulfilling and finding fulfilment in the way the world sought to get ahead instead of from God’s Word,
- Loosing control and situation awareness,
- Problems that should have been dealt with reappeared,
- confusion and distrust of others in the kingdom and those on the outside which caused division.
All of these and more were common in the lives of the other wicked kings because they sought and ran after making themselves or their belongings more important than a relationship with the God who saved them and knew them. Them not knowing God and who He is took them down these paths and so many more that we see throughout the books of Kings and Chronicles, which are all written along with the whole of Scripture as a message from God’s Heart for our eternal position as well as out temporal position that we will walk through this life as close to Him as possible and have His peace in our life as we seek to navigate it with His direction.
