Today’s Bible Reading: 2 Kings 1-3

Today’s Devotional: 2 Kings 1:1-6
Ahaziah’s reign and rule was short, only two years, that was not the shortest by any means however. With Ahaziah the Lord gives us more understanding as to why his reign was only two years and what some of his actions which are recorded here in 2 Kings 1.
An injury came upon Ahaziah when he fell through the lattice of his upper room, this would have been a network of netting for ornamental design and held up by pillars. And this incapsulates Ahaziah’s following choices after his injury; Ahaziah sought to venture out and be held up by a netting instead of standing on the sure foundation of the pillar of who God is and who placed him in his position as King of Israel. An ornate netting is beautiful and attractive but placing our weight and assurance on some thing just because it looks nice and had an appearance of something that endures but is gone in a season is futile and fleeting. Paul writes and warns the Colossians of this exact thing in Colossians 2.
Instead of placing our trust in the netting which shifts and removes the assurance of a firm foundation and footing, let’s cling to and stand on the pillar of who God is and His Word in our life which allows us to be cautious about the anxiety of loosing the hope that we have in Christ Jesus. The netting of this world looks very glamorous and attractive, but if we stare too long and walk out on it to hold us up we inevitably slip through and are driven to anxiety and confusion because of choices that we have made that we are no longer worthy to receive from the Lord and who He is and the Salvation which He has given as a gift to us; or because we have gotten so used to receiving from the world we go to the world to receive answers and our identity which can only come from Jesus.
