Today’s Bible Reading: 2 Kings 4-5

Today’s Devotional: 2 Kings 4:1-7
Despair and self-humbling to remove the debt that must be paid.
The widow and her two sons first hand experience of God’s Grace in their lives. God’s Grace doesn’t come through an intermediary but from and through Jesus Christ directly; and we grow in the understanding of God’s Grace by a consistent flow of His Word in our life which fills us through and from the power of the Holy Spirit who grows us in an understanding of the payment that has been made for sin by the atoning work of Jesus Christ on the Cross.
This is what Peter meant in his epistle in 2 Peter 3:18 and Paul in many of his letters to several of the early churches, to grow in the knowledge and understanding of who Jesus is and what He’s done for us. He is enough, His power and His knowledge are enough to fill us to completion; we must only go humbly before Him and His Word, then let it fill us and our life.
The widow here her large vessels for oil were filled, in order for them to be filled they first had to be empty of anything from before and were to only be filled by the oil which came from a small container of anointing oil; this would require a constant flow for a small anointing flask to fill many large vessels but it could only be done because of a trust in the Word from the Lord and a constant flow from the Spirit washing and filling the jars with oil that a miraculous and unexplainable transformation had takin place within it.
- Trust in the Word of the Lord
- Empty vessels
- Continual outpour from the Holy Spirit
- An inner transformation that can only be explained as what God can do.
This is the mark of a debt that must be paid, has been paid in someone’s life.
