Today’s Bible Reading: 2 Kings 21-23

Today’s Devotional: 2 Kings 21:1-18
Manassah, who became one of the worst kings of the Southern Kingdom of Judah, acted almost in deliberate spite against God and anything that points and brings honor to Him. His actions were intentional and deliberate of a man who is not only at enmity with God, but seeks and thinks he can strike a devastating blow to God and the thought of Him. Manassah’s actions again are direct and intentional at the very name and heart of God.
2 Kings 21:3 Manassah rebuilt all of the high place, which purposes were only for drawing the focus and heart of the people away from the Lord. These were the exact things his father Hezekiah removed. This was not something Manassah was raised or brought up to follow after or to lead others in; he had immediate example of the Northern tribes of Israel being led and carried away into captivity to foreign gods and foreign captivity as an eye witness testimony.
If we seek to fool ourselves and others that if only we saw right in front of our eyes the examples and effects of sin and wrong living then we’d change. We’re only lying to ourselves because Manassah is an example for us and the current culture and condition of the Church is our own judgement against ourselves. Where there is constant distraction after new distraction away from Jesus have been erected to lead our hearts after the success of the world and not the success of the Cross. Altars to men and women are erected on stage and behind the pulpit that bring attention to the individual and their life with its circumstances, its successes, and its failures instead of Jesus and His eternal glory. The vast majority of Churches have sacrificed the complete revelation of God’s Word for short and elusive success that is evident and strives only for numbers but have no substance of Christ in the lives of the people being fleeced for the individuals personal profit and not for the sole purpose of being built up into the completeness of Him who has called us Jesus Christ.
