Today’s Bible Reading: 1 Chronicles 11-13

Today’s Devotional: 1 Chronicles 11:1-9

David is made king of all of Israel, the Lord had already anointed or ordained David to be the next King of Israel after Saul, long before anyone else ever recognized God’s calling and anointing on his life. The Lord anointed or ordained David to a higher calling of service within the nation because of one reason, David sought and loved the Lord above all other possible distractions.

It wasn’t because David had some specific training or education, but it was because David loved and sought the Lord when no one else was around. David’s relationship wasn’t just for show, it wasn’t one that was not lived out publicly either; David wasn’t one way behind closed doors and another way with others. David always sought to remove the distractions from his own life and had a heart to help and serve other to help them remove those distractions in their life as well, so that they can focus on the Lord and what the Lord desires in their lives.

In these few verses we see what David was able to do as long as he co-operated with the Lord. Those in Jerusalem who had been previously unable to drive out were deposed; the place where God desired to make His name present amongst the nation and for the whole world to witness. David’s growth as he co-operated with the Lord and this affected David’s life, the culture around him, and others as well; this spurred others to seek the Lord and to grow closer to Him because they saw an example of the Lord’s heart for them and a heart for the Lord, which was to be the purpose of the Kings of Israel.
