Today’s Bible Reading: 1 Chronicles 17-20

Today’s Devotional: 1 Chronicles 17:1-15

Having a heart for the Lord and the things of the Lord, then with our desires no matter how right they may seem or how Godly they may appear to ourselves or others, we should always take that choice or direction to the Lord and seek His clarity and His desire for that situation or direction. It may be as with the Temple, the Lord encouraged this heart because He desired for David to prepare and pray for another to step out in this area, and that individual in this for David ended up being his son.

Work shouldn’t be undertaken without the express command of the Lord, and it’s the Spirit of the Lord who confirms the Word of the Lord in the hearts of others and not the other way around where our fundraising plans, building plans, risk assessments, trip itinerary or emotional frenzy which confirms to others that the Lord is in something or not. It’s the Holy Spirit who works in people’s lives, and speaks to the individual as they are growing in relationship with Jesus and allowing the sanctifying work of the Spirit to take place; then confirms through time in His Word and possibly sometimes even by a word of prophecy, gives a dream or vision, or speaks audibly as to what the direction or step should be.

We then see God’s promise to build and ensure David’s family through to the Messiah. Previously in a days reading we read how David had whether intentional or not, chose to copy the ways of the nations around him for ensuring his lineage and family name on the throne.

By going ahead and rushing to the first direction or step that may look right and true can prove to be the wrong step, either because we have not take a step of faith like this before or because we have taken a step of faith like this before, we have read of another who has, or because someone else has and saw results then it’s a good step and direction for us to take. This can’t be further from the point of steps of Trusting God, because that’s what faith means, the point of taking steps of trusting God is to trust Him and His wisdom and not trust our own wisdom, our own experiences, or someone else experiences which can all be explained. Remember the peace the Lord gives in situations He’s leading in are those which pass the understanding of duplicatable systems, our own, or someone else’s. It’s all based on Him, and we get this peace and direction by spending time with Him in His Word and prayer about His Word and Who we learn He is through His Word. God is far more concerned with His relationship with us than with anything we can or may do.
