Today’s Bible Reading: 2 Chronicles 12-16

Today’s Devotional: 2 Chronicles 12:1-12

The Lord established Rehoboam firmly as the King of Israel, and we read that as soon as He had been established, Rehoboam departed from God’s Word and allowing it His Word to be the center focus for abiding and abounding in what God had already established. In so doing Rehoboam grew away from the Lord and allowing the Lord to continue His work in his life. Instead we see Rehoboam continued everything in the knowledge, resources, and understanding other that God’s in order to direct and instruct the steps of Rehoboam and all of Israel.

God has designed and desires that whatever establishes something, then that is also what sustains it. That is both a natural and spiritual law we can observe in creation and that we see in His Word, that the Lord has written in. The Lord should be the primary source for our knowledge and understanding of how we approach and consider different situations.

Rehoboam saw that he was doing just fine, and that the Lord was irrelevant in sustaining what He had established. We should never come to a point that the instruction from God’s Word becomes irrelevant for any movement or any individual. As with David and Solomon, our hearts and our opinions are never more relevant than God and His Word in any situation or circumstance; and neither does the hip new philosophy of the day.

The Lord then had to step in and humble the Southern nation of Judah, so that they would not place their hope in their own strength and knowledge or the strength and knowledge of the world as above God’s.
