Today’s Bible Reading: 2 Chronicles 17-19

Today’s Devotional: 2 Chronicles 17:1-6

The Lord established Jehoshaphat and the people recognized the Lord’s hand in it. The Lord is the one who established every good work. Jehoshaphat just as with all other kings had to make the decision to continue to walk in and with who it was who had established them in the first place. With Jehoshaphat we are given an example for us of what marks the individuals life who desires for the Lord to be their continued source of strength, understanding, and provision.

Jehoshaphat equipped and established the people as well so that they would not be deceived and taken away by distractions that come in from the outside for the malicious purpose of stealing away the promised peace which they had in the Lord and in His promised land. Paul put it this way in writing to the Galatians, that there were those who crept in for the purpose of bring them under bondage to something other than who God is, and instead to the works of men’s hands.

The people recognized the desire of Jehoshaphat to not only continue with the Lord, but also for them to be established in the Land to the degree of God’s intent through His ways working in their lives and not becoming distracted or deceived away from who Jesus is.

It was the Lord who established Jehoshaphat, it wasn’t the people nor a committee, and Jehoshaphat was lead by the Lord and he didn’t have to worry about being a man pleaser, but instead desired to only please the one who had established him. That becomes the problem with relying on a committee or another man to establish us or to affirm us, we become man pleasers and seeking to do things that will please whoever will establish or affirm us. Another man or a committee then holds the keys to our hearts and our obedience, and not the Lord.
