Today’s Bible Reading: 2 Chronicles 20-22

Today’s Devotional: 2 Chronicles 20:1-12
Ammon, Moab, and those from Arabia come up to battle against Jehoshaphat. We see Jehoshaphat was fearful, because he knew that this great group of nations was too great for him or Judah, consistently throughout Jehoshaphat’s life we have seen that he understood that everything, whether he was abounding or abasing, was too great and too much for him to handle. So Jehoshaphat always turned to the Lord for his instruction and understanding on how to go forward.
Jehoshaphat’s fear, he did not allow it to consume or control him, instead he allowed it to be a warning signa to continue where he had been established, in communion with the Lord.
Jehoshaphat’s response was prayer, seeking the Lord for His knowledge and understanding to be the driving force for him and for him to be aligned to. Jehoshaphat was quick and continued in desiring to know what it was he needed to do in order to stay aligned with the Lord and His heart in every matter. It was because Jehoshaphat communed with the Lord when he and Judah abounded that he so quickly went to the Lord when harm was knocking at the door. Jehoshaphat didn’t understand the situation, but he knows who does. It’s because in times of peace and prosperity he staying close to the Lord and abounding in the Lord it is that Jehoshaphat learned who gives and establishes everything and everyone. When Jehoshaphat prospered he didn’t get prideful and puffed up that he did anything to abound, but that it was on part of the Lord and His grace.
Jehoshaphat realized all of this because he remained in the Council and Word of the Lord, where he learned how both he and the people we to walk before Him. All of these instructions are in the Word, all we need to do is to get into the Word and ask the Lord to reveal Himself in it just as Jehoshaphat did constantly.
