Today’s Bible Reading: 2 Chronicles 23-25

Today’s Devotional: 2 Chronicles 23:1-11
When righteousness is sought after and desired. It is not a sin or wrong to desire God’s standard of righteousness to be put on display and lived out, it is however wrong to desire our own or a group’s standard of right and wrong to be put on display and to seek to have others follow our own form of righteousness.
The difference here is who’s standard of righteousness are we seeking and displaying. Is it our own or someone else’s? Or is it the Lord’s righteousness? The only place that we see God’s standard of righteousness clearly on display, spelled out, and given for us is from within His Word; and so the only way that we can know what true righteousness is, is that we have to be in His Word and allow His Spirit to transform our inner man and thoughts into His.
God’s Word has been given so that we have a clear picture and example for us of who God is and for a distinction to be known of what true righteousness is and what is a counterfeit. Then when we know what true righteousness looks like, because we have the standard of what to compare it to, we then know and understand what needs to be then removed and replaced in order to have true righteousness worked and developed in our lives and how it happens. This happens by the Holy Spirit who God places in our lives then establishes and builds up the character of Jesus in our life through His work and His power, and not our own. The best we can do is make outward changes but never address the heart, it is only the Lord who can change our hearts and motives, we are incapable of doing this and that is why the Gospel is so offensive because it says we can’t save our selves and we can improve our selves… But He can and will if we will let Him.
When this is allowed, this brings a new generation of mighty men and women of valor who seek to have God’s name known and God’s standard for righteousness lived out and not how we may or a group my set a standard of righteousness for themselves and what is acceptable or not for membership and fellowship. His righteousness being lived out then continues only as long as God’s Word and His standards are sought after and not our own or someone else’s.
