Today’s Bible Reading: 2 Samuel 19-20

Today’s Devotional: 2 Samuel 19:1-8

Our body language, responses, and reactions to situations carry large implications and often times travel further and faster than our words do.

The same response of David and Israel’s then response to David is why in Leviticus 10, Moses’ response to Aaron after his sons were killed for misrepresenting and abusing the worship and identity of the Lord. The lesson the Lord is sharing with the children of Israel is that false worship  and misrepresenting leads to only one end, it’s death. If we do not worship the God of the Bible in the manner of which He has revealed to us of who He is and the proper way for worship then it leads to a dead worship and faith which He is not in and which we go after other things for our salvation and restoring back to Him other than the truth and this leads to eternal separation or death.

David’s public response quickly changed the heart of all of Israel from rejoicing that the Lord had removed sin and the encouragement for sin from their life. David’s reign was still shortly after that of Saul and the time of the Judges, we don’t see hundreds of years lapsing for the children of Israel to forget the consequence of being turned away from the Lord. Those were days of individuals doing what was right in their own sight, then them reaping the consequences that would follow. This was an agrarian society they understood very well the concept of harvesting what one plants, and there’s no getting around it, it’s against the very design and creation of God and His nature.

David’s manner for how he was sad for his son and the way he did it communicated to the people that it was better for sin to grow and abound than for it to be dealt with before it consumed everything. God is very clear in His Word, sin must be delt with immediately and completely because the end result is we end up separating ourselves from the Lord and going after other things to fulfill and justify us.
