Today’s Bible Reading: 2 Chronicles 8-11

Today’s Devotional: 2 Chronicles 8:1-6

Solomon built and established all that he had been given. Solomon was a good steward with everything the Lord added to and blessed both him and Israel with in establishing him in the eyes of all of Israel in his calling. Also in the eyes of the nations around Israel. That their God was with them and they were pleasing to the Lord. May we also be good stewards of what the Lord has entrusted us with so that and for the purpose of others speaking favorably of and honoring the Lord.

… According to his (Solomon’s) desires. 2 Chr 8:6b

God’s Word instructs us for the general use of what He has entrusted us with, along with examples of similar situations of specific things He has entrusted others, and His Spirt further expounds and directs us on how what we have learned from His Word, among other purposes, instructs us on how to specifically use what He’s entrusted us with. His specific instruction will also never contract what He has already revealed in and from His Word.

We see that apart from Solomon establishing himself as he desired, he begins to depart from the Lord’s instruction and the Lord being both His and Israel’s strength and sustainer in Solomon building chariot cities and multiplying horses. Solomon begins to trust in the worlds advancements and physical strength to sustain what God has already established. This later continued to distract Solomon by him not taking God’s Word as serious as he should have. What Solomon should have echoed was the same the Psalmist pinned in Psalm 20:7.
